Nike "On Air" is the competition organized by Nike each year which allows independent designers to reclaim legendary models of the brand with the swoosh. One of the flagship models of this program is the Nike Air Max 98 La Mezcla created by Gabrielle Serrano aka Queen Leo.
The artist says he was inspired by the effervescence of the city of New York to create this more than original pair! Culturally diverse, the pair, like the city, adopts a complex visual and filled with color. This Nike Air Max 98 La Mezcla is composed of a base playing on beige and black gradients. All combined with off-white elements and leather with crackle prints in reference to the concrete of the city. The green details evoke the Statue of Liberty and the touch of blue symbolizes the Hudson River. As a final signature, we find the geographical coordinates of NYC: latitude 40° 42' 51 N and longitude -74° 0' 21 W, on the inside of the model.
